***Ogden Soccer will no longer hold COMP tryouts moving forward***
To our Ogden Soccer Families,
When we started Ogden Soccer in 2018, we had a simple goal, to give our kids a great place to play and to build something where families felt at home here in Ogden.
What followed has been an incredible journey.
From a small local start, we grew to support nearly 1,000 players at our peak and continue today with approximately 800 players. Along the way, we’ve watched coaches grow and earn higher certifications, players develop from beginners into confident athletes, and young referees step into leadership roles. We’ve seen hundreds of players move on to competitive soccer, and we are just as proud of the thousands who simply showed up for the love of the game.
This club has always been grounded in four core principles.
Player Centered - Positive Environment - Trained Coaches - Community Focused
At our best, we have lived those values.
But as many of our older players have seen, the world of youth soccer has changed.
The rise of large national leagues and pay-to-play systems has shifted the landscape. What was once a community-based game is increasingly becoming a high-cost, professionally driven system. We have worked hard to offer a competitive pathway while keeping costs accessible.
The reality is that trying to keep pace with those systems has stretched our volunteers thin and made it harder to consistently deliver on the experience we believe our players deserve.
We’ve made efforts to adapt, including adding part-time leadership support in 2025, but the broader pressures have continued to grow. At the same time, we’ve seen a shift from families participating as volunteers to engaging more as customers, which changes the foundation this organization was built on.
At the core of all of this is something we believe deeply - youth sports should help build well-rounded children. We believe in multi-sport participation, in balance, and in giving kids the opportunity to explore a variety of activities as they grow. We also recognize that too much specialization, too early, can raise real concerns about long-term well-being and burnout.
After careful consideration, and informed by feedback from our community, we are making an important change.
Ogden Soccer will no longer hold COMP tryouts moving forward.
This is not a step backward. Instead, we are refocusing on what we do best, providing a strong, community-based program where players can develop, coaches can grow, and families can be part of something meaningful.
We are not leaving our competitive players or coaches behind. We will continue to support as you grow and guide families as they explore next steps in the competitive soccer landscape. We believe there is still an important role for Ogden Soccer to play in helping players navigate those opportunities. Ogden Soccer remains a home for players to have fun and develop through our GOAL Soccer program.
Your voice has been an important part of this process. We have been reviewing survey responses, and that input has helped bring clarity to the path forward.
To every coach, parent, and player who has been part of Ogden Soccer, thank you. You are the heart of this club. What we have built together matters, and it has made a lasting impact in this community.
We are proud of this journey, and we remain committed to serving Ogden and the greater area youth with purpose, clarity, and care.
With gratitude,
